2011 Summer Universiade: Canada’s women’s volleyball coaching staff announced
OTTAWA (Volleyball Canada) – Volleyball Canada announced today that Alain Pelletier of the Université Laval Rouge et Or has been named head coach of the Canadian women’s volleyball team for this summer’s World University Games.

Pelletier was hired as head coach of the Rouge et Or in the summer
of 2007 after a successful coaching career at the Quebec provincial
level. This past season he led the Rouge et Or to fourth in
the Canadian rankings and a berth in the national final which they
lost to the UBC Thunderbirds.
The previous two seasons, Laval reached the Final Four and the
school has been ranked in Canada’s top-10 the past three
winters.
Pelletier’s assistants for the Games are Lee Carter of
Brandon University and Joely Christian-Macfarlane of Queen’s
University in Kingston, Ont.
On Tuesday, Larry McKay of the University of Winnipeg was named
head coach of the men’s volleyball team for the World
University Games.
The World University Games are August 12-23 in Shenzhen, China. The
women's team will be determined following their selection camp in
Winnipeg from May 15-20.
About the Summer Universiade
The Summer Universiade is an international multi-sport event that takes place every two years, and is second only to the Olympic Games in the number of participating athletes and countries. The Universiade is open to competitors between the ages of 17 and 28 in the year of the Games who are full-time students at a post-secondary institution (university, college, CEGEP) or have graduated from a post-secondary institution in the year preceding the event.
