Brock wrestlers strong after Day One at Olympic Trials

WINNIPEG - The Brock University wrestlers had some good results at Day One of the Olympic Trials.
 
Still remaining are two-time Olympic medalist Tonya Verbeek (55kg), Jessica MacDonald (48kg), CJ Hudson (60kg) and Ryan Weicker (66kg).
 
At 48kg, MacDonald went 2-0 posting victories over Saskatoon teammates Natasha Kramble (12-0) and Ashley McKilligan (8-0). She now takes on Lindsay Prickett, who is ranked No. 2.
 
Michelle Fazzari (63kg) went 2-1 posting victories over Kathleen Kent (9-1) and Megan Buydens (4-1) in pool play. She dropped a 6-0 decision to Martin Dugrenier in the first step of the ladder.
 
For the Brock men, Chris Laverick (74kg) was 3-1 with victories over Cattown's Connor Malloy (11-3), Colin Daynes (1996 Olympian) (12-3), and Saskatoon's Ryan Myrfield (13-6). In the first step of the ladder Laverick lost 6-0 to Guelph's Chris Prickett.
 
In his lone match on Day One, Ryan Weicker defeated Salisbury's Jack Bond 13-0. He now takes on Ryan Lue, who is No. 2 at 66kg.
 
CJ Hudson and Tonya Verbeek are both scheduled to compete on Saturday.
 
Both Jake Hergenhein (55kg) and Diana Ford (55kg) finished the trials with 1-1 records.

66 kg - Ryan Lue vs. Ryan Weicker
 
48 kg - Lindsay Prickett vs. Jessica MacDonald
