Brock's MacDonald captures gold at 2011 Pan Am Championships

Brock University club wrestler Jessica MacDonald continued her dominance on the mat at 51kg as she captured gold at the 2011 Pan Am Championships in Rionegro, Columbia with three straight wins. "Jessie continues to make great improvements in her wrestling and the results reiterate that," said Brock wrestling head coach Marty Calder. "Her work ethic and desire to get better have fueled her progress. She is a top contender for the world title this year at her weight class."

MacDonald blanked all three of her opponents defeating Mexico's Wendy Martinez (6-0, 8-0), American Jessica Madina, who is currently ranked second in the USA, (1-0, 3-0) and Columbia's Juliana Alzate (6-0, 7-0).

Over the past year, MacDonald has excelled on the mat capturing eight titles, including the New York International Open, World Cup, Great Britain Open, SFU International, Guelph Open, Dave Schultz Memorial, Provincial Senior Championship and Canadian Senior Championship. She also medalled at the German Grand Prix, Commonwealth Games and Cerro Pelado Tournament in Cuba.
