Hodgson named intermin Windsor Lancers women's volleyball head coach

Gord Grace, Director of Athletics at the University of Windsor is pleased to announce the hiring of Lucas Hodgson as the Interim Head Coach of the Windsor Lancers Women's Volleyball program. The appointment is effective immediately.

Considered to be one of the top coaches and recruiters in the OUA, Hodgson has served as the head coach of the Brock University Women's Volleyball program for the past seven seasons.

Since taking over the Badgers program midway through the 2003-04 season, Lucas has built the Brock Women's Volleyball team into a perennial contender in the OUA West Division.

In 2008-09, he was named the OUA West Coach of the Year after leading the Badgers to a 14-5 overall record, which tied the Brock school record for most victories in a single season.

This past season, Hodgson's Badgers finished at 12-7 in the OUA West Division and reached the OUA Quarter-Finals. Over the past three seasons, he has led Brock to an impressive 38-19 record (.667 winning percentage).

In addition to his work with the Badgers, he also founded the Brock Volleyball Club (BVC) which helps develop elite volleyball athletes in the Niagara region. The club currently has four teams competing in the Ontario Volleyball Association.

"We are very excited to have Lucas on board as the interim head coach of our women's volleyball team," said Grace. "He has done a tremendous job turning around the Brock program and we are looking forward to him leading our Lancer Women's Volleyball team next season."

Before taking over the Badgers, Lucas coached at both the high school and club level in the Niagara Region. As head coach of the Governor Simcoe senior boys team, he led them to three straight SOSSA titles and three Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) appearances.

At the 2002 OFSAA "AA" Boy's Volleyball Championships in Goderich, he led them to a gold medal to become the first Southern Ontario (SOSSA) volleyball school to win a high school provincial championship.

At the club level, Hodgson has coached the Niagara Rapids in a variety of age categories working his way up through the ranks.

"I am very excited to be coming to the University of Windsor and taking over the coaching duties for the Lancer women's volleyball program," commented Hodgson. "This is an exciting opportunity and I'm looking forward to the challenge next season."

Hodgson earned his Bachelor of Physical Education degree from Brock University and he will be joined in Windsor by his wife Erin.
