Toronto Varsity Blues top Georgia Tech invitational

TORONTO - The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team recorded numerous personal best performances at the Georgia Tech Invitational, May 14-15, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Third-year physical education and health student Sarah Wells ran her fastest time en route to a sixth-place finish in the women’s 400m hurdles. The Unionville, Ont. native bettered her previous personal best by 1.38 seconds, crossing the finish line in 56.85.

Toronto National Development Centre athlete Jillian Drouin cleared a personal best of 1.89m in the women’s high jump, good for a second-place finish, while three-time CIS champion Sarah Boyle tied her outdoor personal best (1.80m) to place fifth.

Rounding out the personal best performances in Atlanta was University of Toronto Track Club (UTTC) member Massimo Bertocchi in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 14.02.

In other action this weekend, 2010 CIS men’s pole vault champion Jason Wurster tied his personal best, clearing 5.50m to finish third at the Rio Grand Prix (May 16) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
