CIS women's soccer Wednesday roundup: Rams OUA playoff bound after 6-0 win over Trent

Ryerson 6. Trent 0 Final

In their final home contest of the 2011 season, the Trent Excalibur women’s soccer team dropped a 6-0 Ryerson Rams.  With the loss, the Excalibur fall to 1-10-2 on the season and sit in eighth place in the Ontario University Athletic (OUA) East division.

Kendra Welham opened the scoring for Ryerson in the ninth minute as she found herself uncovered in the box. Her strike from 12 yards out gave the Rams a 1-0 lead. Welham, Andrea Raso and Kristen Horgan-Smith would add additional markers before the end of the half.

Horgan-Smith would add her second of the game 15 minutes into the second half when she buried a pass from Lianna Woollard into the corner of the Trent goal.  Emma Ewing-Nagy would wrap up the scoring with her second goal of the season to make the score 6-0.

Sarah MacGregor was under siege in goal for Trent during much of the game, but still managed to make nine saves in the loss.  Katrina Persson-Thomas earned the shutout for Ryerson.

Despite not putting a goal on the board, Trent striker Shannon O’Brien  gave a strong effort in pressuring the Ryerson defence, earning her the Excalibur’s player of the game honour.

Trent has three road games remaining this season.  They will visit the
Carleton Ravens on October 16 and the Ottawa Gee-Gees on October 15 for 1 pm starts before wrapping up the season by visiting the Toronto Varsity Blues for a 6:30 pm start on October 19.
