Exhibition: UFV Cascades over McGill Martlets 2-1

MONTREAL - Defender Danielle Schmidt of Abbotsford, B.C., scored on a free kick from 33 yards out as the visiting University of Fraser Valley Cascades rallied for a 2-1 victory over McGill in women's preseason soccer at Percival Molson stadium, Thursday.
Alexandra Morin-Boucher, a senior striker from Montreal, had given the Martlets a short-lived 1-0 lead in the 39th minute after converting a pass from Hannah Rivkin.
However, UFV netted the equalizer four minutes later when midfielder Megan Webster of Abbotsford, connected on a penalty kick
The Cascades had a 16-11 edge in attempted shots and goalkeeper
Chantelle Biagioni of Pitt Meadows, B.C., registered a pair of
saves for the win. McGill 'keeper Victoria Villalba turned aside
six of eight shots and was saddled with the loss.
UFV, which finished third at the CIS national championship tourney
last year, improved to 2-0-2 in preseason play. McGill, which
dropped to 0-2, will host the Old Four men's and women's tourney at
Molson stadium this weekend.
In women's action, the Western Ontario Mustangs play Toronto on
Saturday at 3 p.m., while the Martlets will meet Queen's at 7:30
p.m.
In the men's draw, Western and Toronto will hook up at 1 pm, while Queen's is slated to take on the McGill Redmen at 5:30 p.m.
