Former Bisons All-Star Desiree Scott starts for Canada at 2011 FIFA World Cup
WINNIPEG - Manitoba Bisons women’s soccer assistant coach
and former Bison Desiree Scott has been named to the official Team
Canada roster for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Germany.
Team Canada head coach Carolina Morace selected 21 players eligible
to play in the world's biggest women's sporting event, which runs
this June 26-July 17 in nine German cities.

This will mark Canada's fifth-consecutive participation in the FIFA
Women's World Cup dating back to 1995. The team has also already
qualified for the next FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015 when the
event will be hosted by Canada. Canada's opening round opponents
are host Germany (June 26 in Berlin), France (June 30 in Bochum)
and Nigeria (July 5 in Dresden).
Scott, 23, plays at the midfielder position plus has already made
22 National appearances for Team Canada and this will be her first
participation in a World Cup. She started with second place result
with Canada at the 2006 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20
Championship; represented Canada at the FIFA U-20 Women's World
Championship in 2006; won a gold medal with Canada at the 2010
CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifier plus part of back-to-back
championships for Canada in the Cyprus Women’s Cup in 2010
and 2011.
The former Bison Sports Female Athlete of the Year (2009-10), Scott
made a huge imprint on the Manitoba Bisons women’s soccer
program during her illustrious five-year career. She earned four
total conference All-Star recognition (First Team: 2008-09; Second
Team: 2005-06) along with being named 2005 Canada West Rookie of
the Year. The Winnipeg native scored 58 points (32g, 26a) in 64
conference regular season games.
Bison women’s soccer head coach Chris Lewis commented,
“It is a tremendous accomplishment for Desiree to represent
Canada at the Women’s World Cup this year. I know she has
worked very hard throughout the last couple of seasons to reach
this goal and Desiree will be a great ambassador for the Bisons
while playing for Team Canada in Germany.”
