Exhibition: Laurentian Lady Vees sting Concordia 3-0
HAMILTON, Ont. - The Lady Vees soccer team closed out their
preseason schedule with a 3-0 defeat over the Concordia Stingers on
Sunday, August 29.
Looking to bounce back after a tough 2-0 loss to McMaster
which saw the Lady Vees suffer from injury, Laurentian was able to
come out with much resilience and determination to escape Hamilton
with a record of 1-1.
The Lady Vees would find scoring from midfielder Dayna Corelli
(Sudbury, On) who scored a beautiful goal off a free kick, Lisa
Watson (New Market, On.) who placed the ball right in the top
corner after a great run down the wing and goaltender Tanya
Marshall (Ottawa) would chip in with the last goal as she found
herself in an offensive role due to the teams short bench. Jaimee
Lafraniere (Sudbury, On.), Michelle Philp (Etobicoke, On.) and
Marshall would all get credit for the shutout as they shared the
goal tending responsibilities for this game
"The girl's fought hard today and I was happy with their
effort," said head coach Rob Gallo. "The rookies played very well
and are looking good. We are looking forward to this week of
practice as we prepare for Ryerson and Toronto next weekend."
The Lady Vees will open regular season play next weekend at
Laurentian when they kick off against the Ryerson Rams on Saturday,
September 4 before taking to the field on Sunday, September 5 to
battle it out against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Both
games for the Lady Vees begin at 12 p.m
Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 12
varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs and Lady Vees decorated history
of pride and tradition includes 61 provincial championships as well
as 9 national championships in 49 years of competition.
