2009 AUS women's soccer all-stars announced
HALIFAX, NS - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce
the 2009 women's soccer all-star teams as selected by the
conference's head coaches following regular season play.
UPEI fourth year striker Tessa Roche, the 2005 Atlantic conference
Rookie of the Year, leads the list of all-star selections announced
today. Roche, who led the CIS in scoring in 2005 with 15 goals,
scored a league-high 13 goals this season, the second highest total
in the nation this season. Other Panthers honoured today include
second year keeper Chanelle Roy, third year defender Sara Stewart
and second year midfielder Andrea Archibald. Roy and Stewart are
all-stars for the first time while Archibald was also a second team
selection in 2008.
The first place and CIS No. 5 ranked Dalhousie Tigers, who have yet
to lose a game this season, also had four players recognized by the
coaches. Fourth year defender Jeanette Huck and fifth year senior
Teresa Morrison were named to the first team, while midfielders
Kate MacDonald and Rieka Saintilli were named to the second team.
Huck, the 2006 AUS Rookie of the Year and a 2008 second team CIS
all-Canadian, led the Tigers with seven markers this season, while
Morrison added five goals for Dalhousie, who led the conference
with 27 goals scored. MacDonald was also a second team selection
last season.
Four-time reigning Atlantic University Sport conference champions,
the Cape Breton Capers, who finished third in the regular season,
had three players named to the first team, including graduating
seniors Kiley Snow and Hannah Abenheimer, along with third year
defender Alyssa Kavanaugh. Abenheimer, a 2008 first team CIS
all-Canadian, netted three goals for the Capers this season while
Kavanaugh found the back of the net twice.
Other notable selections include Memorial's Laura Breen and Malorie
Harris, who finished the regular season with six and five goals
respectively. Breen, a four-time conference all-star who was named
the 2004 AUS Rookie of the Year as well as the 2008 AUS Player of
the Year, wraps up her stellar five-year career with 39 career
goals. Harris, also a fifth year senior, amassed 28 goals in her
five years with the Sea-Hawks.

The 2009 Subway Atlantic University Sport Women's Soccer
Championship will be hosted by Memorial University of Newfoundland,
November 6-8, 2009.
The championship schedule is as follows:
Friday, November 6
Quarter-final #1: StFX (4th) vs. Moncton (5th), 4:00pm
Quarter-final #2: Cape Breton (3rd) vs. Memorial (6th - Host),
6:15pm
Saturday, November 7
Semifinal #1: Dalhousie (1st) vs. Lowest Remaining Seed, 1:00pm
Semifinal #2: UPEI (2nd) vs. Highest Remaining Seed, 3:15pm
Sunday, November 8
Championship Game: Semifinal Winners, 12:00pm
The Atlantic University Sport champion and runner-up will advance
to the 2009 CIS Women's Soccer Championship, November 12-15, 2009,
hosted by the University of Toronto.
