Varsity Blues drop first game of season to Gee-Gees
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s soccer
team lost their first match of the season to the OUA East leading
Ottawa Gee-Gees by a score of 2-0 on Saturday, October 10.
Both teams displayed high intensity early on in the game, putting
lots of pressure on the field. Fifth-year striker Courtney Luscombe
(Ottawa, ON) scored in the 10th minute to put Ottawa up 1-0.
Shortly afterwards, Brittany Harrison (Burlington, ON) added
another to round out the scoring for Ottawa.
The Blues came out stronger in the second half, but were unable to
maintain a solid attack against the solid defence of the Gee-Gees.
Second-year goalkeeper Mélissa Pesant (Gatineau, Que.)
recorded a shut out in the victory. Fourth-year player Alicia
Lashley was the stand out player for the Blues, as the Ottawa
native battled relentlessly throughout the match.
The Varsity Blues now sit in third place in the OUA East division
with a record of 9-1-2.
You can catch the next Blues home game on Friday, October 16 when
Toronto plays host to the Laurentian Lady Vees. Game time is
scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
