Ottawa 56 Bishop's 5 Final

Three tries by Sarah Meng led the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees to a 56-5 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters in Quebec university rugby action tonight at Coulter Field. Meng was the high scorer for an Ottawa squad that found the end zone 10 times.

It was the Gaiters who scored the game's first points, as scrum half Allix Laffoley-Cartier pushed the ball over from three yards out in the game's 5th minute, giving Bishop's an early 5-0 lead. Ottawa responded a minute later, as Abeyanna Tross broke through the Gaiters' defence to tie the game, and then took the lead for good in the 15th minute, as Hayley McKee found the end zone. The Gee-Gees put the game away late in the half, as Madeleine Goldsmith, Dria Bennett and Meng scored three ties in ten minute, giving Ottawa a 29-5 halftime lead.

The Gaiters endured a nightmare start to the second half, as the Gee-Gees punched in four tries in the half's opening 12 minutes, with Meng, Goldsmith, Anna Mancini, and Irene Patrinos all scoring. A final Meng try and three conversions by Amber Stoffer rounded out the scoring.

The loss drops the Gaiters to 0-1 on the season. They return to action on Friday night, September 16, as they visit the Concordia Stingers. Kickoff at Concordia is set for 7 p.m.
