X-Women defeat Huskies 67-7 in women's rugby final

ANTIGONISH, NS - The StFX X-Women defeated the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies by a convincing score of67-7 Saturday afternoon in the 2009 Subway AUS women's rugby championship to capture their 12th consecutive Atlantic conference banner and once again hoist the Michelle Birks Trophy as AUS Champions.

Second year prop Asya Bartley was named the Alexander Keith's championship game Most Valuable Player.

Ghislaine Landry, a four-time AUS MVP and two-time CIS Player of the Year, led the X-Women with two tries while eight other players also scored tries in a balanced StFX attack. Lisa Gauthier, Amanda Thornborough, Tyson Beukeboom, Jamee George, Allison McGlashen, Malorie Dobbin, Jillian MacLaren and game MVP Asya Bartley all chipped in with tries. Courtnay Malcolm added 17 points on seven conversions and a penalty kick.

Jessica Dovanne had SMU's lone try and Katey Smith added a convert for the Huskies.
