GAME 3 POOL A:
Lethbridge 33, Laval 0
With the top seed in Pool A on the line, Canada West Champion
Lethbridge Pronghorns came out with a dominant performance,
controlling the pace and physically dominating the Laval Rouge et
Or.
Only three minutes in National team member Ashley Patzer
(Lethbridge, AB) broke free from several tackles and sprinted to
the end zone for the Horns first try. Laura Murphy-Burke (Surrey,
BC) hit for the Horns first convert.
Patzer picked up her second try of the match, forcing her way into
the end zone with a Laval player clinging to her back. Murphy-Burke
hit the convert from a very difficult angle.
In the waning minutes or the opening half Shannon Court (Red Deer,
AB) scored the Horns third try and put the Horns up 19-0 at the end
of the half.
The Horns carried their momentum into the second half, Brittany
Orr crashed through Laval's line of tacklers to score the Horns
fourth try of the afternoon. Murphy-Burke hit her third convert of
the game.
Orr rounded out the scoring with her second try finishing off a
stellar passing sequence. Murphy-Burke continued her exceptional
kicking, making good on her fourth convert.
"Defence has been a solid base to build from, we need to continue
to play good defence as the level of play will intensify from here
on out" commented Horns' Head Coach Neil Langevin.

GAME 3 POOL B:
StFX 12, Guelph 5
The AUS champion St. FX X-Women rebounded from a tie with the
Alberta Pandas, downing the OUA and previously undefeated Guelph
Gryphons 12-5 to lay claim to the top spot in Pool B.
St. FX got off to the start they were looking for opening the
scoring in the 5th minute. A strong goal line sweep by the X-Women
resulted in Kim Armstrong (Barrie, ON) touching down for the try.
Courtnay Malcolm converted the try to put the X-Women up 7-0.
Not to be out-done the Gryphons pushed forward in a physical first
half and were finally rewarded. Mimi Rehneva (Ruce, ON) stretched
the X-Women defence out laterally before slipping into to touch for
the try with an opponent draped over her back. The opening 25
minutes ended with St. FX up 7-5.
St FX continued their strong defensive play thwarting an early
second half surge from the Gryphons with a prominent goal line
stand. Guelph continued to press though the midway point of the
second half, before seemingly running out of gas and the momentum
shifted in St. FX's favor.
With less than 10 minutes to play, St. FX sealed the victory with
an unconverted try from Asya Bartley, thus handing the Gryphons
their first defeat of the season.
