Fraser named Dalhousie Tigers women’s hockey interim head coach

Halifax, NS – Dalhousie's Department of Athletics and Recreational Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Fraser as the head coach of its women's hockey team for the 2011-12 season.

As an assistant coach with the team for the last six seasons, Fraser's connection with the team and potential recruits will allow for a smooth transition. "Over his past six years with the program, Sean has been able to establish the dedication and respect by the players and staff that allows us to capitalize on the positive team dynamic built over this time," says John MacDonald, Dalhousie's Director of Athletics and Recreational Services. "He will continue to recruit and build our program to be a contender for regional and national success."

Fraser's coaching experience with the Tigers, combined with playing four years of NCCA Division I hockey at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, makes him an excellent choice to lead the Tigers into the 2011-12 season. He has also coached Nova Scotia's U17 and senior women's teams.

"I am excited for the upcoming season and am looking forward to the challenges of my new role," says Fraser. "We have a strong veteran core with the majority of our players returning as well as some very talented recruits. We still have a few spots to fill but are diligently recruiting to add quality players. Having lots of leadership and experience in the dressing room should make for a smooth transition from my assistant coach position. It will also make us strong contenders for the AUS title. We will be hosting the AUS championships this year and our goal is to be playing in the finals."

As per standard university hiring policy, the position will be publicly posted toward the end of the 2011-12 season.
