OTTAWA (CIS) - Université de Moncton forward Mariève Provost tied a prestigious Canadian Interuniversity Sport record over the weekend and moved one step closer to becoming the all-time scoring leader in CIS women’s hockey.

Provost, who is playing in her fifth and final university campaign, netted the 106th regular season goal of her illustrious career on Friday night against St. Francis Xavier to set a new Atlantic University Sport standard and tie the national mark.

The previous AUS record of 105 goals had been established in 2008-09 by former StFX great Brayden Ferguson, while the national record of 106 had first been set by Danielle Bourgeois, a two-time CIS player of the year who skated for Alberta from 1999-2000 to 2004-05.

Provost now has her sights set on the CIS career points mark. The native of Laval, Que., has amassed an Atlantic conference record of 106-102-208 in 98 games and trails only former Alberta all-star Tarin Podloski (91-122-213) and Bourgeois (106-106-212) on the all-time CIS list.

Mariève Provost, Université de Moncton Provost, who will represent Canada later this month at the Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey (Jan. 27 – Feb. 6), is slated to play two more matches for the Aigles Bleues before she leaves for the Games on Jan. 23. Moncton visits Mount Allison on Friday and then travels to St. Thomas on Jan. 21.

She will miss four contests while in Turkey and will have four regular season games left once she returns to the Aigles Bleues lineup, starting on Feb. 13 against St. Thomas.

Provost leads CIS in scoring this season with 15-18-33 in 14 contests. Olympic gold medallist Hayley Wickenheiser is next in the national scoring race with 13-16-29 in 11 outings for the Calgary Dinos of the Canada West conference.

A first-team AUS all-star each of her first four campaigns at Moncton, Provost has earned first-team all-Canadian status on three occasions. Since being named AUS rookie of-the-year in 2006-07, she has merited conference MVP honours twice and has won three AUS scoring titles along with one CIS scoring crown.

Provost helped Canada claim gold at the first-ever Universiade women’s hockey tournament in 2009 in Harbin, China, when she racked up seven points (4-3-7) in as many games.
