OUA roundup: Knox ties CIS shutout record, No. 2 Golden Hawks still perfect


TORONTO - The No. 2 nationally-ranked Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks improved to 24-0-0 on the season, with a pair of wins in the Ontario capital over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Golden Hawks blanked the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-0. More importantly, Laurier goaltender Liz Knox recorded her 11th shutout of the season and 30th of her university career to tie Charline Labonte's CIS records. Knox stopped all 20 shots she faced.

Andrea Ironside scored a pair of goals, her 10th and 11th of the season. Teammate Laura Bartolini also contributed a goal.

On Sunday the Golden Hawks downed the No. 8 York Lions 8-3. Laurier's Paula Lagamba earned a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point effort.

Ironside again scored two goals for a total of four on the road trip. Kaley Powers, Heather Fortuna and Candice Styles also scored for the Golden Hawks.

Chloe Milano, Kristie Wilson and Victoria Benacquista scored for the Lions, who dropped to 16-8-1.

QUEEN'S 4, WESTERN 1


At Queen's, the No. 9 Gaels defeated the Western Mustangs 4-1 on Sunday.

Western jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Veronica Johnston.

Queen's then poured it on with four unanswered goals. Jesse Cone, Becky Conroy, Elizabeth Kench and Alana Smith all scored for the Gaels.

Queen's improved to 18-5-2, while Western dropped to 10-12-4.

WINDSOR 5, UOIT 1

At UOIT, Brooke Ludolph scored two goals to lift the Windsor Lancers (11-14-0) to a 5-1 road win over the Ridgebacks (4-16-5) on Sunday.

Manon Davis, Ashley Kirby and Kiely Barnett also scored for the Lancers.

Sarah Matthews scored on the power play for UOIT's lone goal.

TORONTO 3, WATERLOO 0

At Toronto, goaltender Kendyl Valenta stopped all 17 shots she faced to lead the Varsity Blues over the Waterloo Warriors 3-0 on Sunday.

Allie White, Lindsay Hill and Emily Milito all scored for the Varsity Blues.

The Varsity Blues improved to 13-10-2 while the Warriors fell to 6-16-3.

QUEEN'S 3, WINDSOR 0

At Queen's, the Gaels scored three second period goals in a 3-0 win over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday.

Kelsey Thomson scored a pair of goals for the Gaels, her 13th and 14th of the season. Megan McNutt also added a single marker.

Queen's goaltender Mel Dodd-Moher stopped all 31 shots she faced.

YORK 3, WATERLOO 1

At York, the Lions defeated the Waterloo Warriors 3-1 on Saturday.

The game was close through two periods. Chloe Milano scored on the power play midway through the second period, giving the Lions their first lead of the game.

Brittany Holland of the Warriors then scored with less than five minutes remaining in the period as the game remained 1-1 through the second intermission.

Mandy Cole scored a shorthanded marker in the opening minute of the third period to put the Lions in front for good. Autumn Mills sealed the win with an empty netter.

WESTERN 4, UOIT 3, SO

At UOIT, Tawn Rellinger scored the winner in a shootout as the Western Mustangs edged the host Ridgebacks 4-3 on Saturday.

Brittany Buck, Kaley Sisler and Chantal Morais all scored for the Mustangs in regulation time.

Nicole Pigeon scored a pair of goals for UOIT, her first two of the season. Sarah Worthington also scored for the Ridgebacks in regulation.
