No. 5 X-Women handle Dalhousie

The CIS ranked No. 5 X-Women improved their league-leading
record to 15-2-3 with a 4-1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers Saturday
afternoon at the StFX Keating Centre.
StFX built up leads of 1-0 after 20 minutes and 4-0 after 40
minutes en route to the win. Jessica Shanahan scored the first
X-Women goal late in the first period with 47 second left on the
clock. Shanahan notched a power play marker, capitalizing on a
rebound in front of Tigers goaltender Ashley Boutlier. Suzanne
Fenerty and Marilynn Hay assisted on the play.
The X-Women opened up the game in the second period with three
consecutive goals to establish a 4-0 lead. Sidney Ritchie scored
3:17 into the second frame, jumping on a loose puck in a goal
crease scramble. Daniela Falconia and Tyson Beukeboom were credited
with assists.
Catie Gavin notched the X-Women's third goal (12:36) of the game.
Boutlier made the initial save on goal but the puck trickled under
her pads and Gavin popped it in the net. Abygail Laking assisted on
the Gavin goal, then later scored X's fourth goal of the game at
the 17:26 mark of the second period. Laking stole a loose puck in
front of Boutlier and knocked it on. Sidney Ritchie had the
assist.
The Tigers lone goal of the game came at 13:06 of the third period
as Alyssa Penner's shot from the point got through traffic to beat
StFX's Katie Harvieux. Elizabeth Matheson picked up the assist for
Dalhousie, who were outshot in the game 30-21. The game also
featured 38 penalty minutes as both teams were sent to the sin bin
on numerous occasions for roughing and undisciplined play.
Harvieux earned the win in nets for StFX, while Boutlier took the
loss for Dalhousie. Sidney Ritchie was named the Subway Player of
the Game for the X-Women.
StFX currently holds a 15-2-3 record with 33 points in first place
in the AUS conference, with two games in hand over the Moncton
Aigles Bleues (15-2-1) who are in second spot with 31 points.
Moncton will play St. Thomas Sunday and UPEI on Thursday night.
The X-Women's next games will be on the road on Feb. 13th and 14th.
They travel to Sackville, NB on Saturday to face Mount Allison
(1-19-1) and Charlottetown on Sunday to play UPEI (6-12-1).
