Exhibition: Gaiters dump Bisons 75-45 at Concordia tourney

LENNOXVILLE, Que. — A season-high 19 points by Gabrielle Côté-Caouette (Quebec City, Que.) led the Bishop's Gaiters to a 75-45 rout of the Manitoba Bisons in the consolation round of the Concordia-Reebok Women's Invitational basketball tournament in Montreal. Côté-Caouette went 7-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, as the Gaiters evened their record in the tournament to 1-1.

The Gaiters led 20-16 after the first quarter, and 33-27 at halftime, but broke the game open with a 27-point third quarter to take a 60-37 lead and cruise to the victory.

"The team played together today," said Alex Perno, the Gaiters' Head Coach. "We were disciplined, and more in sync."

Fifth-year point guard Jessy Roy (Val d'Or, Que.) picked up 16 points and six assists, while Mélanie Ouellet-Godcharles (Gatineau, Que.) added 14 for the Gaiters, who were 13-for-26 (50%) from three-point range.

Manitoba was led by Allison Balasko and Kayla Klassen, who scored nine points each. Mubo Ilelaboye grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and made five assists for the Bisons, who suffered their second straight loss.

Overall, the Gaiters shot 41.5% from the field, but they held the Bisons to only 33.3% shooting. Bishop's forced 32 Bisons turnovers, led by Ouellet-Godcharles and Katy Germain, who had four steals each.

The Gaiters (6-9, 6-8 CIS, 1-5 QUBL) close out the tournament on Friday morning as they face the Ryerson Rams. Tipoff at the Concordia Gym is set for 10 a.m.
