OUA roundup: No. 3 Lancers win 17th game of OUA season

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Windsor Lancers women's basketball team
defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 75-49 on Saturday night
at the St. Denis Centre.
With the victory, the No. 3 nationally-ranked Lancers move to 17-1
in conference play.
On Saturday night, Windsor got off to another quick start as they
opened a 20-8 first quarter lead to seize control of the game.
Coach Chantal Vallee's squad got another strong
shooting performance from third-year guard Emily
Abbott, who knocked 4-of-5 from long range in the opening
half.
The Lancers continued to apply pressure at both ends of the court
as they increased their lead to 17 at the half, 42-25.
The second half was more of the same as Laurier had trouble
containing Lancer guards Shavaun Reaney,
Bojana Kovacevic and Emily
Abbott.
After extending their lead to 25 points in the third quarter, the
Lancers cruised to the 75-49 victory.
In the win, Abbott led scorers with 16 points and three steals.
Reaney also had a strong game as she filled up the stat sheet with
11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Kovacevic added 14 points and nine rebounds in the victory.
The Golden Hawks fall to 7-11 on the season.
The Lancers will go on the road on Wednesday as they travel to
Waterloo for a battle with the Warriors. Tip-off is set for 6
p.m.
CARLETON 55, LAURENTIAN 39
At Laurentian, the No. 10 Carleton Ravens (16-4) soared to a 55-39
win over the host Lady Vees (12-8).
Jessica Resch (Orleans, Ont.) scored a game-high
17 points for the Ravens, while teammate Ines
Jelic (London, Ont.) contributed 16 points.
Norma Jean Roberts scored 13 for the Lady Vees in
a losing effort.
WESTERN 70, GUELPH 47
At Western, the Mustangs (14-4) galloped to a 70-47 win over the
Guelph Gryphons (2-16).
Amanda Anderson (Dover Centre, Ont.) scored 24
points to lead Western. Rebecca Moss (Waterloo,
Ont.) contributed 14 points for the Mustangs.
Alex Russell (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) led the
Gryphons with 12 points, and sister Samantha
Russell (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) contributed 11
rebounds.
TORONTO 70, QUEEN'S 61
At Toronto, Nicki Schutz (Toronto) earned a
double-double to lead the Varsity Blues (9-11) to a 70-61 win over
the Queen's Gaels (12-8).
Schutz scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, both game-highs.
Teammate Erin McNeely contributed 18 points for
the Varsity Blues.
Katie Guthrie (Orillia, Ont.) scored 24 points for
the Gaels.
BROCK 74, MCMASTER 61
At Brock, the Badgers upended the McMaster Marauders 74-61.
Hillary Woodside (Fall River, N.S.) and
Lauren Stewart (Hamilton, Ont.) scored 16 points
each for the Badgers, while teammate Whitney
Gorges (Welland, Ont.) contributed 15.
Elizabeth Burns (Hamilton, Ont.) and
Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton, Ont.) scored 13 points
each for the Marauders.
Brock and McMaster sport similar records at 11-7.
LAKEHEAD 57, WATERLOO 54
At Lakehead, the Thunderwolves (11-7) narrowly defeated the
Waterloo Warriors 57-54.
Tasia McKenna (Timberlea, N.S.) led the way for
the Thunderwolves, scoring 19 points. Teammate Lindsay
Druery (Smithville, Ont.) was one point shy of a
double-double, with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Laura Becotte (Thunder Bay, Ont.) earned a
double-double for the Warriors (4-14) with 14 points and 11
rebounds.
OTTAWA 68, YORK 60
At York, the Ottawa Gee-Gees (11-9) defeated the host Lions
68-60.
Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto) earned a
double-double for the Gee-Gees with 18 points and 14 rebounds, both
game-highs.
Brittany Szockyj (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.)
scored 16 points for the Lions (3-17) in a losing cause.
RYERSON 92, RMC 47
At Ryerson, the Rams (12-8) were tough on the RMC Paladins (0-20),
winning 92-47.
Kelsey Wright (Brampton, Ont.) and Lacey
O'Sullivan (Port Colborne, Ont.) scored 20 and 19 points,
respectively, for the Rams.
Abby Edmison (Carleton Place, Ont.) led the
Paladins with 17 points.
