OUA roundup: No. 10 Ravens tame Lions
TORONTO - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team captured
their seventh straight win after defeating the York Lions 84-53
Friday night.
The first quarter saw the Lions playing a zone defence, which the
Ravens unfortunately didn't use to their advantage. Despite the
rough start, the team was able to come up with a 16-9 lead at the
end of the first.
The second saw much of the same for the Ravens who encountered
travelling violations and several turnovers. Fortunately, the Lions
were unable to complete their shots and with strong rebounds and
complete plays at the other end, the Ravens were able to maintain
their lead at the half.
The Ravens stepped it up in the second half with aggressive play
and stronger defence, in turn giving the Lions no chance to take
the lead by the end of play.
Carleton's Alyson Bush (Ottawa), Kendall
MacLeod (Brockville, Ont.), Ashleigh
Cleary (Kemptville, Ont.), Sara Hickman
(Ottawa) and Jennifer Stoqua (Ottawa) all saw
double digits, with Stoqua netting a game-high 15 points.
York was led by Brittany Szockyj (Niagara on the
Lake, Ont.), who contributed 12 points. Nadia
Qahwash (Kitchener, Ont.) was the only other Lion to reach
double digits, with 10.
