OUA roundup: Clemencon unstoppable; No. 2 Lancers roll to 94-81 victory over Mustangs
WINDSOR, Ont. - Led by the dominating play of forward
Jessica Clemencon, the Windsor Lancers women's
basketball team rolled to a 94-81 victory over the Western Mustangs
on Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre.
With the victory, the No. 2 nationally-ranked Lancers move to 9-0
in conference play and now sit two games ahead of the Mustangs in
first place in the OUA West Division.
Played in front of a capacity crowd in Windsor, the visitors had no
answer for Windsor's rookie standout who dominated both ends of the
floor in the victory.
On Wednesday night, both teams got off to hot starts in the early
going as they showed why they are two of the top teams in the
province again this year.
The Lancers broke out to an early 9-4 lead to open the game before
the Mustangs charged back to tie the game 11-11.
The first quarter stayed tight throughout as neither team was able
to break free from the other. The Lancers were able to take a lead
late in the quarter after a Laura Mullins
three-pointer was rounded out with two foul shots from Clemencon to
give the home team a 27-25 lead.
The Lancers stayed in control in the second despite being
challenged by the constant attacking play of Western's
Amanda Anderson.
The score was tied at 41-41 until a pair of Western turnovers were
converted by Miah Langois and Bojana
Kovacevic to put another late quarter run in motion for
Windsor.
After baskets from Kristy Chute and Clemencon,
Windsor held a 54-50 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Lancers were able to finally break away
from the Mustangs thanks to more impressive post play from
Clemencon and Raelyn Prince. Western had no answer
for Clemencon as she dominated inside the paint in the second
half.
Windsor outscored Western 27-17 in the third quarter to take a
81-67 lead after three quarters of play.
The final quarter saw the Mustangs try and mount a late run but it
was not to be as the Lancers cruised in the fourth to the 94-81
victory.
The story of the game was the unstoppable play of Clemencon who
finished with 36 points on an incredible 14-of-19 shooting. The
native of St. Rambert, France was also 8-of-8 from the free throw
line and added seven rebounds and three assists on the night.
Mullins also had a strong game with 15 points and 6 rebounds while
Shavaun Reaney finished with 12 points and six
rebounds.
Prince had one of her best games of the season as she chipped in
with 10 points and eight rebounds and played solid defence in the
paint. Chute also had a strong showing with 10 points, seven
rebounds and three assists on the night. Langlois added five points
and six assists in the win.
The Lancers will be back in action on Saturday night when they host
the Brock Badgers at the St. Denis Centre. Tip-off is set for 6
p.m.

the contest leading to a 47-6 difference in points off
turnovers.
Brock had six players with nine or more points led by junior

season.
The purple and gold built up a lead in the first quarter and kept
building to hold a 37-24 advantage by half. While the Gryphons
outscored the Hawks in the two remaining quarter, albeit by one
point in each, it wasn't enough to overcome their first half
deficit.
