CIS men's volleyball Wednesday roundup: No. Bisons down Wesmen, put pressure on Spartans

WINNIPEG - The CIS #2-ranked Manitoba Bisons defeated the #10 Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-23) in the final match of the 21st Annual Duckworth Challenge, Wednesday evening at the Duckworth Centre.

The victory pushes Manitoba's record to 15-2. The loss drops Winnipeg's record to 7-12.

Fourth-year right side Dane Pischke led Manitoba with a match-high 13 kills. Ryan Munt added 10. Derek Nieroda had 19 defensive digs, bringing his season total to 207.

Winnipeg was led by second-year outside Ty Loewen's 11 kills and 12 defensive digs. Devin Schmidt had eight kills. Setter Zack Diboll finished with 20 assists and eight digs.

The Duckworth Challenge Players of the Game were Zack Diboll (Winnipeg) and Derek Nieroda (Manitoba).

The teams wrap up their home-and-home series on Saturday, 8:00 p.m. at the University of Manitoba.
