Former Golden Bear hired as new Technical Director/ Provincial Coach for Volleyball Nova Scotia

HALIFAX, N.S. - Former elite athlete Brock Pehar will play a lead role in the provincial elite program and offer player and coach clinics around the province in his new role as Technical Director/Provincial Coach with Volleyball Nova Scotia. He will also assist schools, clubs, athletes and coaches with their technical development.

The position marks new territory for Volleyball Nova Scotia. Pehar joins Executive Director Al Scott in a plan to enhance the status of volleyball in all regions of the province. "This is an exciting time for Volleyball Nova Scotia and all existing and future players to have such an experienced and high caliber Technical Director sharing his expertise throughout the province," said Dave Swetnam, President of Volleyball Nova Scotia.
 
Brock assumes the position after an outstanding playing career as a 6'5" setter in the CIS. While studying Economics and Math at the University of Alberta he captained the Golden Bears to a national university championship in 2008 and national championship silver medals in 2006 and 2007.  The First Team All-Canadian and CIS Championship MVP also brings a solid background in beach volleyball having won provincial championship titles in both Ontario and Alberta.

Brock also played professional volleyball in the Swiss National A League with Lugano and was selected to the league all- star team. He was head coach of the University of Alberta U21 Men's Team, leading the Bears to the provincial championship title in 2008. In 2010 he served as an assistant coach of the Saskatchewan U19 Boys' Provincial Team.

"I'm very excited to be part of a growing organization.  This opportunity allows me to remain involved with the sport that have given me so much and work towards the enrichment of volleyball in Nova Scotia", said Brock.
