CIS player of the year Sanderson to return to Brandon Bobcats
BRANDON, MB – Following an outstanding year in 2009-2010 Paul Sanderson has decided to return to BU for his final year of eligibility.
Last year Sanderson was named CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) men’s volleyball player of the year, a season in which he lead the nation in total points (416.5) and was chosen as Canada West MVP. He spent the past off-season considering offers to play professional volleyball before deciding to return to Brandon.
“It’s great that he decided to return to our program for his final year of eligibility,” says men’s volleyball coach Russ Paddock. “Paul turned down a couple of pro contracts to return to BU and help our program bring home a national championship.”
Sanderson has been awarded first team Canada West All-Star honours each of his three years at Brandon University as well as being named second team All Canadian in 2007-2008, and a first team All-Canadian in 2008-2009.
“Paul has matured a lot in his time at Brandon University and we are excited to have him back,” says Kirk De Fazio, Athletic Director at BU. “His goals are to get another degree from Brandon University and ultimately work towards becoming a volleyball coach. This is a great move for him in his development as a player and a person.”
Sanderson, a native of Melbourne, Australia, set a Canada West conference record with 36 kills in one game against Alberta last year.
