WINDSOR, Ont. (CIS) - The hometown crowd had plenty to cheer

The Windsor Lancers had an unprecedented sweep of the Men's Long
Jump competition as they captured positions 1 through 5 to earn
their team 33 points. Ben Warnock, who finished 5th at the Ontario
Championships, won the gold medal with a jump of 7.19m while Jamie
Adjetey-Nelson picked up another medal, winning silver with a jump
of 7.14m. Brayan Patten completed the sweep of the podium, also
with a jump of 7.14m. Teammates Derek Watkins and Anthony Dandie
finished 4th and 5th respectively
Windsor's dynamic duo of Adjetey-Nelson and Watkins continued
their outstanding weekend as the pair both medaled again in the
Men's High Jump. The top-ranked Watkins took home the gold medal
with a jump of 2.18m. Adjetey-Nelson captured the bronze with a
jump of 2.04m while Alex Witmer of Western earned the silver medal
on the basis of fewer misses with an identical jump of 2.04m.
Noelle Montcalm of the Lancers captured a pair of silver medals on
the day in the 60m hurdles and the 300m dash to add to the bronze
medal she won on Day 1. She finished second in a time of 8.57 to
Marie-Eve Dugas from Sherbrooke who captured her third CIS gold
medal in the event with a time of 8.38. Janine Polischuk picked up
bronze with a time of 8.62.
In the 300m race, Noelle finished second behind reigning champion
Amonn Nelson of Calgary who crossed the line in 38.37. Noelle
crossed in 40.15 while Danielle Kendall, also of the Dinos, came in
third in a time of 40.55.
In the third record-breaking performance of the weekend, Jim
Steacy of Lethbridge broke his own CIS record in the Weight Throw,
set in 2007, four times en route to the gold medal. The man who
represented Canada at the 2008 Beijing Games finished the
competition with a throw of 24.08m to improve upon his standard by
nearly half a meter. Dustin McCrank of Guelph captured the silver
medal with a throw of 18.29m while Garth Suppes of Manitoba earned
bronze with a throw of 17.51m.
The Guelph Gryphons vaulted up the team standings thanks to
outstanding performances in both the Men's and Women's 3000m races.
The Men's race saw the Gryphons sweep all three medals as Kyle
Boorsma took home the gold in 8:34.53, Allan Brett captured the
silver in 8:37.29 and Derek Snider earned the bronze in
8:39.37.
The Women's race was won by Lindsay Carson in 9:39.39 while
teammate Courtney Laurie won the silver medal in 9:43.71.
Victoria's Marilyn Arsenault prevented a Gryphons sweep by winning
the bronze medal in 9:50.17.
In one of the most exciting races of the evening, Heather Sim of
Calgary overtook the hometown favourite Raeleen Hunter of Windsor
in the final 20 meters to capture the gold medal in the Women's
1000m in a time of 2:49:87. Hunter, who came into the event ranked
10th, crossed the line in 2:50.04 to take the silver and Jillian
