Vikes' Ryan Cochrane nabs second silver of worlds in men's 1500-metre freestyle

VICTORIA - University of Victoria Vikes swimmer Ryan
Cochrane won his second silver medal at the 2011 FINA World
Aquatic Championships with a time of 14 minutes, 44.36 seconds in
the men's 1500-metre freestyle race on Sunday July 31 in Shanghai,
China.
Representing his Island Swimming Association club, Cochrane
finished in second spot behind Sun Yang of China, who swam a
world-record time of 14 minutes, 34.14 seconds, edging the previous
world-record time set by Grant Hackett in 2001 by over four-tenths
of a second.
Cochrane, the 22-year-old 2011 CIS male swimmer and male rookie of
the year, won a silver medal earlier this week in the non-Olympic
men's 800-metre freestyle. He also placed fifth in the men's
400-metre freestyle.
The Victoria native was the 2008 bronze medallist in the men's
1500-metre freestyle at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
