Acadia swimmer Shaikh to compete in FINA World Championship
Wolfville, NS - Acadia University swim team member and Ahmedabad, India native Sufyan Shaikh will be competing for India in the 2011 FINA World Aquatic Championships in Shanghai beginning this weekend (July 16-31) in the Open Water 10km.
Second to the Olympic games, the FINA World Aquatic Championships will offer swimmers like Sufyan an opportunity to represent their country in the coming Olympic games in London, UK.
From his home in India, Shaikh has been appreciative of his Acadia head coach Chris Stone. "I have been training for past nine months with Chris and the results have been far better than what I expected.
Before his arrival to Acadia, Shaikh had already achieved several Open Water top results in India with the support of his family. "I would like to thank my parents for offering so much time towards my swimming efforts. I couldn't have done it without them. I look forward to this meet as a good position to help qualify for the 2012 London Olympics for team India".
An open water specialist, Shaikh will enter his second season with the Acadia swim program.
