MONCTON, N.B. - Saint Mary's University Huskies defeated the Cape Breton University Capers 2-1 Sunday evening to capture the Subway Atlantic University Sport Men's Soccer Championship during the event held in Moncton during the weekend.
The Huskies will represent the AUS at the Canadian Championships to be held in Toronto this weekend. David Inglis, in the first half and Elvir Gigolaj in the second, scored for the Huskies while Shayne Hollis had the Capers marker.
"It was a hard game on the field," said Inglis following the game. "I am speechless, it's very exciting to have won the title. The victory came because all players played together, this was a team success."
Coach Stewart Galloway was a very happy man following the game. "The difference in the game came when we scored our second goal immediately after the Capers had scored," Galloway said. "We were leading 1-0 at the time and it seemed like nothing had changed. The game was hotly disputed on the field."
