Ridgebacks tamed by the No. 10 Lions

TORONTO – The UOIT Ridgebacks were defeated by the nationally ranked York Lions 7-0 in North York on Saturday afternoon in OUA men’s soccer action.

The banged up Ridgebacks squad entered the game sporting a number of injuries following their 4-2 victory over Brock on Saturday. However, the team fought hard throughout the entire match despite being outplayed and outmanned.

”It was a very hard game on Sunday for our team after losing four players to injuries in our game against Brock,” said UOIT head coach Vaso Vujanovic. “We did not have the strength and endurance to compete today with York. They are nationally ranked a reason and they played a really good game.”

Adrian Pena and Moreno Alberti scored two goals apiece leading the York charge. The Lions would beat UOIT goalkeeper Andrew Thompson on seven occasions.

After earning a split in their opening weekend series, the Ridgebacks will look ahead to their next match on Wednesday, September 8 on the road against McMaster. The Marauders went 0-1-1 to start the season.

On Thursday, September 9, the Ridgebacks will meet up with the Durham Lords in the second annual Campus Cup. Game time is at Vaso’s Field is at 6 p.m.
