Cape Breton's Rigby named finalist for United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League MVP award
SYDNEY, NS - The off-season has continued to be one of success for Andrew Rigby of the Cape Breton University CAPERS men’s soccer team.
Rigby, who burst onto the national university stage last season while helping lead the CAPERS to the AUS title and a berth in the CIS national tournament, has been named a finalist for the United Soccer Leagues’ Most Valuable Player award.
A first-team All-Canadian in 2009, Rigby scored once and added 12 helpers while anchoring a CBU midfield. An AUS all-star, Rigby capped his rookie season in Cape Breton by being named AUS Player of the Year and CBU Male Athlete of the Year.
A native of Nottingham, England, Rigby spent the summer months with the PDL’s Ottawa Fury. While his season was limited to 10 games due to injury, he was still among four finalists for the league’s MVP award, along with Moses Aduny of the Mississippi Brilla, Brent Richards from the Portland Timbers U23s and Brandon Swartzendruber of the Thunder Bay Chill.
