Capers move into sole possession of first place in AUS
Heading into the final weekend of the Atlantic University Sport
soccer season the Cape Breton University men’s soccer team
find themselves sitting alone on top of the standings. The Capers
extended their undefeated streak to 11 games following a 2-1
victory over the CIS #4 ranked Dalhousie Tigers on Sunday in
Sydney, Nova Scotia. CBU’s only loss this season was a 1-0
loss to Dalhousie on opening day of the season. Cape Breton is now
three points ahead of the second place University of Prince Edward
Island in the AUS men’s soccer standings.
CBU collected their fifth consecutive win in the game against
Dalhousie on the strength of goals from present AUS top scorer (8
goals) and Bermuda international Keishen Bean early in the first
half. Andrew Rigby of Nottingham, England scored the game winning
goal on a header in midway through the second half to secure the
win. Rigby would earn his fifth Subway player of the game award of
the season for his efforts.
In Saturday’s 4-1 win over St.Mary’s, CBU’s 2008
top scorer Shayne Hollis connected for two goals, Bean and Damion
Vassell (Hamilton, Ontario) also scored for the Capers. Rory
Kennedy scored the St.Mary’s goal. CBU presently leads the
CIS with 32 goals scored in just 11 games.
The Capers will host their final game of the season in their new
field turf facility against Acadia University Sunday at 3:15PM
