Capers move into sole possession of first place in AUS

Heading into the final weekend of the Atlantic University Sport soccer season the Cape Breton University men’s soccer team find themselves sitting alone on top of the standings. The Capers extended their undefeated streak to 11 games following a 2-1 victory over the CIS #4 ranked Dalhousie Tigers on Sunday in Sydney, Nova Scotia. CBU’s only loss this season was a 1-0 loss to Dalhousie on opening day of the season. Cape Breton is now three points ahead of the second place University of Prince Edward Island in the AUS men’s soccer standings.

CBU collected their fifth consecutive win in the game against Dalhousie on the strength of goals from present AUS top scorer (8 goals) and Bermuda international Keishen Bean early in the first half. Andrew Rigby of Nottingham, England scored the game winning goal on a header in midway through the second half to secure the win. Rigby would earn his fifth Subway player of the game award of the season for his efforts.

In Saturday’s 4-1 win over St.Mary’s, CBU’s 2008 top scorer Shayne Hollis connected for two goals, Bean and Damion Vassell (Hamilton, Ontario) also scored for the Capers. Rory Kennedy scored the St.Mary’s goal. CBU presently leads the CIS with 32 goals scored in just 11 games.
The Capers will host their final game of the season in their new field turf facility against Acadia University Sunday at 3:15PM
