UOIT Ridgebacks men's soccer program to enter OUA Conference play in 2010
HUNTSVILLE, Ont. - At the Ontario University Athletics (OUA)
annual general meeting on Friday morning, the UOIT Athletic
Department learned that the program submission for men's soccer was
officially sanctioned and the team is set to enter OUA conference
play beginning in the 2010-11 University season.
"We are very excited to enter OUA men's soccer in 2010," stated Ken
Babcock, UOIT Athletic Director. "We are looking forward to
beginning another varsity program and having the Ridgebacks compete
against the top players and teams from across the country."
UOIT will play in the OUA West Division joining the Waterloo
Warriors, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, Guelph Gryphons, Windsor
Lancers, Brock Badgers, Western Mustangs, McMaster Marauders and
the 2008 CIS National Champion York Lions. The Ridgebacks
conference schedule will consist of 16 games.
The next step for the Ridgebacks soccer program will be assembling
the team's first coaching staff and playing an exhibition schedule
during the 2009-10 varsity season. As announced at the 3rd annual
UOIT athletic banquet in March, UOIT Varsity Dance will also start
up in the 2009-10 season.
