Price named Calgary Dinos head coach

CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos and the Calgary Dinosaurs Soccer Club are pleased to announce that Ken Price is the new head coach of the Dinos men's soccer team.

Price replaces Andy Gibbs, who resigned after 22 seasons as head coach in early March.

A native Calgarian, Price brings extensive credentials to the head coaching position. He is well-connected with the Dinos men's soccer community, having played with the team from 1987-92, and he was a second-team CIS all-Canadian in the 1989 season.

"We are very pleased that Ken has agreed to come on board to coach the varsity program," said Eddie Bardana, president of the club, which has recently taken on funding responsibilities for the program. "Getting our alumni involved has been a key for us to keep the program alive, and I know Ken will do a great job coaching this team."

A founding member of the Calgary Dinosaurs Soccer Club, Price won a senior provincial club championship with the team in 1991. He moved to Vancouver in 1995, winning a B.C. provincial senior men's title with the Vancouver Firefighters Soccer Club in 1998.

Highlights of his coaching career include U-14 and U-16 Alberta provincial championships as an assistant from 1989-92 and an Alberta U-18 title in 1993 as head coach, all with the Celtic Soccer Club in Calgary. Price was also an assistant with the Calgary Storm in the United Soccer League in 2001, winning the North West Division and finishing second at the USL national championship.

Price will be joined on the sidelines by Brian McDonnell, a five-year member of the Dinos from 2003-07 as a goalkeeper. McDonnell received his education degree from the University of Calgary in 2008 and is a full-time teacher at St. Helena Junior High School in northwest Calgary.

McDonnell was an assistant coach with the Mount Royal College soccer team in 2008 and has been heavily involved as a coach in the club system since his graduation from the Dinos program.
