Two former Carleton Ravens sign pro contracts

OTTAWA - The Carleton University Ravens men’s hockey program is pleased to announce that two former student-athletes have signed pro contracts. Chris Mifflen (Orleans, Ont.) has signed with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League and Jared Cipparone (Tecumseh, Ont.), will be heading to Sweden to join the Huddinge IK Sweden Division I men’s hockey team.

Mifflen played defence with the Ravens from 2008-2010 and says his experience at Carleton helped him prepare for the next step of his hockey career.

“[The coaching staff] was always there to throw some good advice my way on and off the ice,” he says. “They also helped me improve my game and were great in understanding what my strengths and weaknesses were.”

Already playing two games for the Mavericks last season during playoffs, Mifflen will have to gear up for a new level of play.

“I think at this level it might be a bit more intense, probably because of the fact that these guys are making a career out of the game now,” he says. “Some of the teams also have older guys, so the fact that they’re older and stronger makes it a bit more difficult than what I was used to over the last two years.”

After three years with the Ravens, Mifflen’s former teammate, Cipparone, is looking forward to his pro hockey career overseas.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to continue my hockey career and grateful for the chance I got playing for Carleton,” says Cipparone. “Playing against top teams in Canada as well as the experience against Sweden’s National Junior team helped me sign this contract. I’m leaving with a degree and a chance to play pro hockey.”

Cipparone had an impressive start in his rookie year, coming away with 11 goals and 37 points.  Last season with the Ravens, Cipparone ended his Ravens career with five goals and 15 points.

Cipparone played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Windsor Spitfires and the British Columbia Hockey League with the Burnaby Express. Mifflen’s OHL career was split between the Oshawa Generals, Sarnia Sting and Belleville Bulls.
