OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens men's hockey team opened the New Year with a 3-2 overtime victory over the University of Guelph Gryphons Sunday afternoon at the Ice House.
Joe Pleckaitis (Toronto) recorded a hat trick for Carleton. He opened the scoring late in the first period with a goal on a penalty shot and added powerplay markers in the third and overtime to lift the Ravens to victory.
Both the Gryphons goals were scored in the second frame. Geoffrey Guimond (Mississauga, Ont.) found the back of the net less than three minutes in and Patrick Campbell (Sauble Beach, Ont.) added another on the man-advantage midway through the period.
Ravens goalie Matthew Dopud (Pointe-Claire, Que.) made several outstanding saves to keep Carleton in the game. When the final whistle blew, he had made 37 saves for the win.
The Ravens will return to regular season action on Jan. 7 when they host the uOttawa Gee-Gees at 7 p.m.
