OUA Quarter Final: Lancers eliminate No. 7 Warriors

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team defeated the Waterloo Warriors 3-2 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon at Columbia Ice Field in Waterloo, Ont.

With the victory, the Lancers eliminate the No.7 nationally-ranked Warriors from the post season and now advance to the next round of the OUA playoffs.

On Sunday, after a scoreless opening period, the Warriors got on the board first in the second period as Kurt Thorner scored to give the home team the 1-0 lead.

Waterloo would add another goal late in the second period as Jarrett Schnurr got one behind Lancer netminder Jim Watt to make it 2-0.

The Lancers would respond two minutes later as Steve Ferry scored on the power play to cut the Warrior lead to 2-1. Kyle Tront and Josh Gaynor assisted on the goal.

In the third, Windsor was able to even up the score as winger Scott Gillis scored at the 4:47 mark to make it 2-2. Danny Anger and Kyle Nishizaki were credited with the assists.

Despite a number of good scoring chances for both teams later in the period, the score remained 2-2 through regulation.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the Lancers would complete the upset in double overtime thanks to first-year forward Tront. The native of Thunder Bay, Ont. fired one into the top shelf past Warrior netminder Keaton Hartigan to give the Lancers the 3-2 victory.

Jim Watt was tremendous in goal for the Lancers as he stopped 38 of 40 shots to earn the win.
