Peacock nets first career hat-trick as Hawks routs Lancers

WINDSOR, Ont. - Wilfrid Laurier's netminder Jeff MacDougald (Shallow Lake, Ont.) picked up the 50th win of his career as the Golden Hawks rolled to a 7-1 over the University of Windsor Lancers.

The Golden Hawks power play was firing on all cylinders as they scored three times with the man-advantage in nine opportunities. Laurier’s first two markers came on the power play. In contrast, the Lancers special teams unit went 0-10.

Windsor now falls to 10-13-4 while the Golden Hawks move up to 16-7-3.

Laurier’s Nathan Peacock (Tillsonburg, Ont.) picked up his first career hat-trick with a goal midway through the second period and two third period markers. Ryan Bellows (St. Catharines, Ont.) scored two goals for the Hawks while Paul Bradley (Calgary) and Clinton Pettapiece (Christina Lake, B.C) picked up the other goals for the Purple and Gold. Laurier scored four of their goals in the second period.

Windsor’s Christian Steingraber (Oregon, Ohio) scored just under a minute into the third period to break MacDougald’s shutout bid. All told, the Lancers fired 31 shots at the Laurier netminder and he stopped 30. Windsor’s goaltending tandem of Jim Watt (Edmonton) and Frank Dayus (Tecumseh, Ont.) stopped 34 of 41.

Laurier will now host the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday, February 12th at 7:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
