Nipissing Lakers to raise awareness for Breast Cancer research

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Real men wear pink, and Nipissing University's men's hockey team is going to help prove that maxim in support of Breast Cancer research.

University and team representatives announced they will be working with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) CIBC Run for the Cure to raise awareness and support for Breast Cancer research during the kick-off event for the CBCF's Real Men Wear Pink campaign. The Lakers hockey team will wear special pink jerseys for their exhibition game on September 19 versus the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The team will also donate a portion of ticket sales and concession sales. The organizers are hoping to find sponsors to purchase pink t-shirts for the fans, as well, to create a sea of pink in Memorial Gardens.

Other real men and women lending their support at the kick-off included Nipissing University's new president, Dr. Lesley Lovett-Doust, North Bay's Chief of Police, Paul Cook, who sported a pink-dyed uniform, and North Bay Chamber of Commerce president Sean Lawlor.

Several local organizations will be participating in the Real Men Wear Pink campaign during the Paint Canada Pink Week, July 20 - 24). U-Need a Cab will be painting one of their cabs pink for this event to also help raise awareness; all their drivers will be wearing Pink T-Shirts on Friday July 24th.
