Cape Breton 65 Acadia 108 Final Box Score

WOLFVILLE, NS - The Axemen basketball team repelled any threats of redemption by the Cape Breton Capers after last year's shocking semi-final loss to Acadia by handing the Capers an embarrassing 108-65 loss. The Axemen take an important four point win and improve to 3-3 and slip into third place behind UPEI and StFX.

The match showcased an impressive 35 point game by third year Axeman Anthony Sears who posted an explosive 14 of 15 from the floor; an eye-opening five for five from the distant arc and a team high eight rebounds. Acadia's first year guard Anthony Ashe added 21 points, while rookie phenomena Tyler Scott and Sean Stoqua netted 14 and 15 points respectively.

Pushing out to a commanding 31-12 first quarter lead, the Axemen carried the momentum through each remaining quarter, posting a 50-27 halftime lead and an insurmountable 75-41 advantage after three frames.

With a dismal 28% from the floor, the Capers delivered a better second half performance with a respectable 47% field goal percentage, but Acadia's 61% from the three point line offered little opportunity for Cape Breton to mount a comeback.

Second year Caper Jamie Glasgow scored a team high 12 points, while senior guard James Dorsey contributed only seven points for the losing cause.

Cape Breton drops to 4-3 giving up four points in tonight's loss and trail Acadia in the AUS standings. The Axemen will face Cape Breton on Sunday, Feb. 20 in Sydney for their second and final meeting.

The Axemen will prepare for the 2-5 Saint Mary's Huskies, while the Capers host the undefeated, CIS #2 ranked StFX X-Men next Wednesday night in Wolfville and Syndey.
