Huskies CIS hoop tournament MVP Troy Gottselig signs with NBL's Storm
Summerside, PEI - The Summerside Storm, of the recently formed National Basketball League of Canada have added another “Big” piece to their roster yesterday as Head Coach and Vice President of Player Personal Joe Salerno announced the signing of 6’9” 230 pound Power Forward Troy Gottselig.
"We are thrilled to have such a talented big man from Canada coming to camp," said Salerno. "Troy had a great career at the University of Saskatchewan, as well as his first two pro seasons with the Edmonton Energy in the IBL.
Gottselig, 24, who grew up just outside of Findlater, Saskatchewan helped lead the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to the CIS National Championship in 2010 where he was named the tournament’s MVP, scoring 22 points in the finals against the UBC Thunderbirds.
"He will bring some grit and toughness to the post for us this season,” added Salerno.
Gottselig has played the last two seasons for the Edmonton Energy of the IBL, where in 2011 he was recognized as a league All-star and helped lead the Energy to the IBL Finals. The Power Forward averaged 12.8 points per game and a team leading 7.4 rebounds per contest.
The Storm’s training camp kicks off October 8th, in Summerside, PEI, with their first preseason game scheduled for Friday, October 21st vs. the Halifax Rainmen in a contest that will be played at the University of Prince Edward Island.
The team’s first regular season game is slated for Thursday, November 3rd when they welcome the Quebec Kebs to Eastlink arena in Summerside.
