CIS coaching legend Ken Shields spends week with Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Ken Shields, who won seven consecutive CIAU national championships with the University of Victoria, spent last week as a guest coach with the Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team. Shields, who also led Team Canada to a seventh-place finish at the 1994 World Championships, conducted a week of practices with the Gaiters.

"I thought the week went very well," said Shields. "The athletes were committed, showed great concentration and were good students. You've got the potential to have a very good big man, and your back court can be very solid."

"We were very fortunate to have someone with Coach Shields' knowledge and experience work with us," said Gaiters' Head Coach Rod Gilpin. "This was a great opportunity for our team."

The intensive week of training capped a season that saw a young Gaiters squad improve over the course of the year, and is a first step in the team's drive to return to the post-season in 2012.
