NCAA’S New York Institute of Technology Bears visit the UQAM Citadins

MONTREAL - The UQAM Citadins will play their second game versus a NCAA division 2 opponent. The Bears from the New York Institute of Technologies (NYIT) will be at UQAM this coming Sunday, October 10th at 13:00 hrs.

Coach Hrycak expects a strong challenge from an experienced and physical opponent." It's at this time of the year that we can experiment with various combinations on the court and see what type of chemistry is present. Furthermore, we hopefully can create some bond among players before the regular season begins."

The Citadins have a new look this year as only 5 players are returning from last year's provincial championship team. Arthaud Plesius, (B.A. in accounting) will be returning for his 5th season at the off-guard position. Gregory St-Amand, (B.A. in administration) who was rookie of the year in 2009, and Eric Cote-Kougnima, (B.A. in administration) Quebec's defensive player of the year in 2010, will be counted on to provide on and off the court leadership.

Thierry Justin (B.A. in accounting) and Emmanuel Verreault (B.A. in engineering) will give the team a strong perimeter threat and Mathieu Landry (B.A. Kinesiology) who at 6'7" may provide a physical presence, round out the veterans on the squad.

The recruiting class is lead by 6'8" Vincent Lanctot-Fortier (B.A. in International Law). Vincent was recognized for his academic achievements in 2009, 2010 in the QSSF, as well as being an all Canadian in 2009 in the CCAA. Size and strength have also been added with Philip Tamba (B.A. in administration), Alexandre Bernard (B.A. in biology) and Frantz St-Cyr (Continuing Education). Sunday's game is scheduled for 13h at the UQAM gymnasium.

Cost is 5$ for students and 8$ general admission.
