Exhibition: Cascades win first ever game against a NCAA Division I opponent in program's history

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades (CWUAA-CIS) defeated the University of San Diego Toreros (WCC-NCAA) 73-61 at the Envision Athletic Centre to register their first ever victory over an NCAA Division One basketball program.  The Cascades led from start to finish as they opened the game with a 10-2 run and built up a six-point advantage after the first quarter, 22-16.  In the second quarter the Cascades held San Diego to 8-points as they put on  defensive display for the hometown crowd.  The Cascades led 33-24 at the intermission.
 
In the second half, UFV withstood several attempts by San Diego to get back into the game as they match the Toreros basket for basket.  In the end UFV was too strong for the their NCAA opponent as the Cascades went onto defeat San Diego by 12-points, 73-61.   
"I have very proud of our guys, their work ethic tonight was great," said Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.  "It was good to see our maturity on the court especially when San Diego made several runs at our lead in the second half."
 
The Cascades were led by Sam Freeman, Burnaby, BC, with a game high 21-points.  Kyle Grewal, Surrey, BC, added 15-points and James Elliott, Abbotsford, BC, 12-points in the victory over San Diego.  Grewal led all Cascades with 10-total rebounds as UFV pulled down 43 boards for the game.  The Toreros were led by Darian Norris, Las Vegas, Nevada with a team high 13-points.  Ken Rancifer, Oakland, California was the only other Toreros in double figures with 11-points.  Chris Manresa, Rancho, California pulled down a 9-rebounds as San Diego recorded 44 for the game.
