EDMONTON - University of Alberta Golden Bears basketball player JORDAN BAKER has been named to Canada’s Development Men’s National Team (DMNT), and will be competing in several exhibition games in Europe between July 17 and August 2. The DMNT will play against Ivory Coast, Belgium, Great Britain, Finland, Netherlands and Spain.

The sophomore guard from Edmonton had a spectacular rookie CIS campaign in 2009-10, as he led the Golden Bears to a 10-10 record and a conference playoff berth. He also claimed the conference freshman of the year award, and was named to the CIS All-Rookie team.

The 6’7’’, 205 pound guard led Alberta with 13.7 points per game, 17th overall in Canada West, and was second in Canada West with 9.1 rebounds per contest.

While on the DMNT, Baker will be coached by his U of A coach, Greg Francis, who is serving as an assistant to Head Coach Leo Rautins.

“This is going to be a great experience for Jordan, and something that will really help his development as a basketball player,” said Francis. “He is going to playing against the top young men in Canada and Europe, as well as against Canada’s senior men’s national team; an experience that will only help him lead the Golden Bears when he returns.”

The 2010 edition of the DMNT features members of the 2009 Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT) that helped Canada qualify for the upcoming FIBA World Championship including Troy Gottselig (CIS champion U of Saskatchewan) and former UBC Thunderbird star Casey Archibald. In addition, Toronto native and former Seattle SuperSonic Denham Brown makes his return to the Canada Basketball program.

Following the tour, select athletes will be invited to continue with the SMNT training camp beginning in August.
