OUA roundup: Badgers, Gryphons knock off nationally ranked teams
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock Badgers men's basketball team
(6-8) knocked off the No. 8 nationally-ranked Windsor Lancers
(10-4) by the score of 80-79 at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Saturday
afternoon.
With Windsor leading 79-77, Brock rookie standout Clinton
Springer-Williams (London, Ont.) hit a clutch
three-pointer with 2.8 seconds left in regulation to secure the
victory.
Brock had three players in double figures led by Springer Williams
who finished with 20 points and nine rebounds. Senior Mike
Cruickshank (Toronto) contributed with 17 points, four
rebounds and four assists while sophomore Didi
Mukendi (St. Catharines, Ont.) added 14 points and five
assists in the victory.
Leading the Lancers was Isaac Kuon who led all
scorers with a game-high 25 points. Also in double digits were
Matt Handsor with 13 points and Nigel
Johnson-Tyghter, Justin Wiltshire and
Andre Smyth who all registered 10 points each.
The Badgers shot a season high 51.5 percent (34-of-66) from the
field including 47.4 (9-of-19) from beyond the arc. Windsor shot 46
percent (29-of-63).
GUELPH 69, LAKEHEAD 62, OT
At Lakehead, the Guelph Gryphons (5-9) earned their biggest win of
the season, defeating the No. 7 Thunderwolves (11-3) on the road in
overtime 69-62.
Dan McCarthy (Guelph, Ont.) led the Gryphons with
a game-high 26 points, while teammate Jay Mott
(Burlington, Ont.) contributed a double-double with 12 points and
10 rebounds.
Jamie Searle (Belleville, Ont.) scored 26 points
for the Thunderwolves in a losing effort, while Yoosrie
Salhia (Toronto) grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
CARLETON 95, RMC 44
At Carleton, the No. 2 Ravens (13-1) downed the RMC Paladins
95-44.
Carleton's Aaron Chapman (Bloomfield, Ont.) scored
a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Teammates Anthony Ashe (Stittsville, Ont.) and
Willy Manigat (Montreal) contributed 15 and 10
points respectively.
Simon Bakin led RMC with 15 points. The Paladins
(0-15) have lost 15 straight games.
OTTAWA 81, QUEEN'S 69
At Ottawa, the No. 6 Gee-Gees (12-2) defeated the Queen's Gaels
81-69.
Josh Gibson-Bascombe scored a game-high 28 points
for the Gee-Gees. Teammate Donnie Gibson also
contributed 18 points.
Mitch Leger (Kingston, Ont.) of Queen's scored 26
points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. The Gaels (7-8)
dropped to under .500 for the season.
MCMASTER 93, WESTERN 64
At McMaster, Keenan Jeppesen (Stoney Creek, Ont.)
and Cameron Michaud (Grimsby, Ont.) each recorded
double-doubles to lead the Marauders (8-6) to a 93-64 win over the
Western Mustangs (7-7).
Jeppesen scored 22 points and added 11 rebounds, while Michaud
equalled his teammate in boards and contributed 14 points.
Ryan Barbeau (Belleville, Ont.) led the Mustangs
with a game-high 24 points.
LAURIER 73, WATERLOO 57
At Wilfrid Laurier, the Golden Hawks (6-8) took the Battle of
Waterloo with a 73-57 win over the cross-town rival Warriors
(8-6).
Jesse MacDonald (Brantford, Ont.) led the Golden
Hawks with 21 points, while teammate Maxwell Allin
(Chatham, Ont.) added 18 points and 13 boards for a
double-double.
Cam McIntyre (Kitchener, Ont.) scored 22 points
for the Warriors in a losing effort.
TORONTO 87, YORK 84
At York, the Varsity Blues (7-7) took the Battle of Toronto 87-84
over their cross-town rival Lions.
Rob Paris (St. Catharines, Ont.) stole the show
for the Varsity Blues, scoring 46 points, including 56 percent
shooting from the field (14-of-24) and three-point range
(7-of-12).
York's Ostap Choliy (Oakville, Ont.) scored 30
points for the struggling Lions (2-12).
RYERSON 107, LAURENTIAN 104, OT
At Laurentian, the Ryerson Rams (6-8) picked up an overtime victory
over the host Voyageurs (5-9).
Boris Bakovic (Toronto) led the Rams with a
game-high 44 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Manny Pasquale (Victoria) and Matas
Tirilis (Mississauga, Ont.) scored 25 and 24 points,
respectively, for the Voyageurs.
