SASKATOON - Canada West leading scorer Showron Glover scored 43 points en route to a 102-81 University of Saskatchewan Huskies victory over the visiting Simon Fraser University Clan Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
Glover had an impressive 20 points in the first half and added 23 in the second half. It is the most points scored in a game this season by a Canada West men's basketball athlete. In the game, he hit seven three-point shots, a total 15 field goals and six free throws. The 43 points is a season high and is the second most points Glover has scored in a Canada West regular season basketball game. On January 4, 2008, Glover netted 50 points. He has also scored 37 and 35 in Canada West games.
Simon Fraser kept the game tight throughout the first quarter matching the Huskies point-for-point and ended the frame ahead 21-20. They held onto the lead until three minutes into the second quarter when the Huskies took back the lead at 26-24. From there the game was all Saskatchewan and by the end of the half the Huskies had an 18-point, 50-32 lead. The Huskies scored 30 points in the second quarter.
Although, the Clan had a strong effort in the second half scoring just three less than the Huskies in the two quarters, the lead Saskatchewan gained in the second quarter was too much to overcome.
Kevin Shaw led the Clan with 20 points, followed by Sean Burke with 16. Eric Burrell had four rebounds for the Clan.
The Huskies had two more players score double digits in the game. Nolan Brudehl netted 21 points and Duncan Jones had 14 points. Brudehl had game-high six rebounds.
Saskatchewan was finding the net shooting at 66.7%. The Clan shot 48.1% in the game. The Huskies beat the Clan on the boards bringing down 30 rebounds in the game to Simon Fraser's 21.
The Huskies will hit the road to visit the University of Winnipeg Wesmen next weekend, while Simon Fraser will return home to host fellow B.C. foe the Trinity Western University Spartans.
