PROFILE
Heading into his senior year at Saint Mary’s, defensive lineman Rob Jubenville looks to be the leader of an impressive Huskies defense, which held opponents to a CIS-leading 263.1 yards against per game 2011.
The 6-foot-0, 255-lb native of Oshawa, Ont., tied for the most sacks in the country with 10.0 in eight regular season games last season, including 13.5 tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles.
Despite his outstanding sophomore season, his goals are for the 2012 season are simple.
“My goal for 2012 is to be better than last year and to do everything I can to make the Huskies a winner,” says Jubenville who also led all AUS players with 43 solo tackles and finished with 47.0 total tackles to lead all defensive linemen in the conference.
His 10.0 sacks in 2011 also established a new Saint Mary’s single-season record and were the second-highest total recorded in the Atlantic conference since 1999 when sacks were first tracked. In just three seasons of university football, Rob has already racked up 17.5 sacks and is now tied for second all-time in league history heading into 2012.
Jubenville’s efforts last season earned him a spot on the AUS all-star squad and he was honoured with a CIS second team all-Canadian selection. He was also selected as the Saint Mary’s defensive player of the year.
In the spring of 2011, Rob was invited to the CIS East West Bowl game hosted by Western University and after not being selected in the 2012 CFL Draft, he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Released after training camp this year, the Huskies are hoping Rob’s experience against CFL competition has prepared him to be a dominant force in the AUS in 2012.
Saint Mary’s head coach Perry Marchese on Rob Jubenville:
“Rob is a high-energy player and we’re looking forward to seeing him progress and eventually play professionally in the next couple of years.”
“He is an extremely smart football player and plays a very fast and violent brand of football. His film study and preparation is second to none.”
