CIS football award finalists to be announced next week

OTTAWA (CIS) – The nominees for the 2011 CIS football individual awards will be unveiled next week.

The RSEQ, which announced its all-star team earlier this week, will be the first of the four CIS conferences to hand out its annual awards. The Quebec winners will be recognized at a media conference set for Monday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at McGill University’s Tomlinson Hall, in Montreal.

The announcements from the AUS, OUA and Canada West conferences are all scheduled for Wednesday (all-star teams) and Thursday (individual awards).

The CIS award winners for the 2011 campaign will be unveiled over two days later this month in Vancouver.

The Hec Crighton (player of the year), Presidents’ (defensive MVP), J.P. Metras (outstanding down lineman) and Peter Gorman (top rookie) trophies will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 24 as part of the Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards.

The Frank Tindall trophy (coach of the year), Russ Jackson award (excellence in football, academics & community service) and Gino Fracas award (outstanding volunteer coach) will follow on Nov. 25 during the Vanier Cup championship breakfast.

The 47th Vanier Cup final is set for Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. Pacific at B.C. Place Stadium, live on TSN and RDS.
