FRC - CIS football players of the week (#13): Desjardins Vanier Cup champions honoured

OTTAWA (CIS) – Running back Sébastien
Lévesque, defensive end Marc-Antoine Beaudoin-Cloutier and
kicker Christopher Milo, all of the Desjardins Vanier Cup champion
Laval Rouge et Or, are the Canadian Interuniversity Sport football
players of the week for the period ending Nov. 27, 2010.
The final selection of the 2010 season was made by a committee
comprised of members of Football Reporters of Canada (FRC).
Lévesque, a third-year open studies student from Brossard,
Que., was honoured on offence for his game-MVP performance in
Laval’s dominating 29-2 win over Calgary in the 46th
Desjardins Vanier Cup final, Saturday at PEPS Stadium in Quebec
City. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound junior received the Ted Morris
Memorial Trophy after he tallied 168 rushing yards and one
touchdown on 30 carries, including a 41-yard scamper that opened
the scoring only 4:27 into the contest. Lévesque’s 30
rushes are the second highest single-game total in Vanier Cup
history while his 168 yards on the ground rank eighth all-time.
Beaudoin-Cloutier, a fifth-year business administration student
from St-Basile, Que., took home the weekly honour on defence after
he racked up 4.5 tackles and a quarterback sack in his final
university outing, a performance that earned him the Bruce Coulter
Award as the defensive MVP of the CIS final. The 6-foot-3,
245-pound senior was the anchor of a defensive unit that held
two-time Hec Crighton Trophy winner Erik Glavic to 69 yards on
6-of-27 passing and set a single-game Vanier Cup record with only
140 total yards allowed.
Milo, a fourth-year open studies student from Montreal, was the
choice on special teams for the second week in a row after he tied
a single-game Vanier Cup mark with five field goals. The 5-foot-11,
205-pound senior, who was named the Uteck Bowl MVP following the
Rouge et Or’s win over Western on Nov. 20, was perfect on
five attempts against Calgary splitting the uprights from 12, 24,
23, 27 and 18 yards out. Milo, who also handles punting duties,
pinned the Dinos inside or at their 20-yard line on four
consecutive punts in the second half to help top-ranked Laval
(13-0) complete the second perfect season in team
history.

The Football Reporters of Canada – University Division
represents journalists and broadcasters in every region of the
country covering CIS Football. Since 1958 the Football Reporters of
Canada (FRC) have been an organization of media members who have
covered the Canadian Football League, serving to select the
league’s outstanding players, coach-of-the-year and all-star
teams through voting conducted by its members. In 2009, the FRC
amalgamated with the University Football Reporters of Canada (UFRC)
to give the organization greater scope in its affiliation with
amateur and college football.
The FRC also works with the CFL and CIS to establish guidelines and
working conditions for the men and women who report on the game.
Selected members of the FRC also help to choose builders, players
and media members for induction into the Canadian Football Hall of
Fame.
